If you have ever had athlete's foot or a yeast infection, you can blame a fungus. A fungus is actually a primitive vegetable. Mushrooms, mold and mildew are examples. Fungi live in air, in soil, on plants and in water. Some live in the human body. Only about half of all types of fungi are harmful.

Some fungi reproduce through tiny spores in the air. You can inhale the spores or they can land on you. As a result, fungal infections often start in the lungs or on the skin. You are more likely to get a fungal infection if you have a weakened immune system or take antibiotics.

Fungi can be difficult to kill. For skin and nail infections, you can apply medicine directly to the infected area. Oral antifungal medicines are also available for serious infections.

I believe I might have a skin fungal infection, but not sure which one, as they all look the same in pictures. Is there some general anti-fungal cream that works on different types?

    • Any topical anti-fungal cream will work for any kind of skin fungal infection and you can get these at any drugstore. Topical creams will not work for toe fungus.

Http:// I can't tell if that is fungal infection or dry skin. My dog has patches of that all over him, and it's getting worse. Thanks!

  • Avatar Jade Green Any treatments that work for Pityriasis Versicolor?
Dec 05, 2012 by Jade Green | Posted in Skin Conditions

I'm 15, and a few months ago i found a small patch of tan/red skin on my breast. Being the worrier that i am i immediately thought the worst and convinced myself i had cancer. Anyway after going to the doctors, he said i …or, as the symptoms and pictures are exactly the same. I was just wondering if anyone has found any good treatments that i can get over the counter ( in the Uk ) or home remedies that help clear it up?
    Thanks :) x

    • Jade Green,
As you appear to consider that the diagnosis of your doctor may be incorrect and have reached a "private diagnosis" of Pityriasis Versicolor, might I suggest that you fully research this befo …or for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition. A licensed physician should be consulted for diagnosis and treatment of any and all medical conditions.

      Hope this helps

  • Avatar Spottedfire What does it mean when the tips of the leaves of a plant start to turn brown or black?
Mar 31, 2013 by Spottedfire | Posted in Garden & Landscape

I have a peace lily and just this morning I noticed that the very tip of one of the leaves had turned brown/black. To show you what I mean exactly, here's a few pictures: …>
    My question is:
I just found a website that talked about "fluoride toxicity" that is common in peace lilies. How can I reverse this or prevent it? Will the leaf or leaves turn back if the problem is fixed?

    • Some possibilities:
      Temperature is too cold
      Too much fertilizer
High level of chlorine in water
had the same problem with one of my plants and started using boiled water and cut down on fertilizer. Problem was solved.
